Coefficient of Friction (Static and Dynamic)

Test ID
M-060

Description
A universal testing machine (UTM) is used to determine the static and dynamic coefficient of friction. Specimen is attached to a sled, placed on a substrate provided by client, and dragged along that surface. Force required to initially move specimen and the force required to pull the sled in steady state motion are recorded, and coefficients of friction calculated from the results. Five replicates are performed.
Standards
ASTM D1894
Data
Static and dynamic coefficients of friction are reported. This data appears in Matereality as Coefficient of Friction.

Application

This test is useful for providing surface interaction characteristics necessary for modeling in FEA design engineering.
