Shear Modulus vs. Temperature by DMA

Test ID

M-603

Description

The test specimen, in the form of a rectangular bar, is subjected to torsional oscillation at constant frequency and small dynamic strain and the torque transmitted through the specimen is measured.  The test is repeated at different temperatures over the temperature range of interest or until the specimen melts.

Options

The test can also be conducted by or heating or cooling the specimen at a constant rate.

This test also can be performed according to the ASTM E1640 standard.

Standards

  • ASTM D5279
  • ISO 6721-7
  • ASTM D7028

Data

Shear Modulus at 23C, Shear Modulus v. Temperature, Tan Delta v. Temperature. This data appears in Matereality as Dynamic Mechanical Properties in Torsion.

Replicates

Number of times this test is repeated: 1

Samples

2 torsional DMA specimen [details]

Application

This test yields information about change in mechanical strength of the material as it is heated. The modulus is observed to fall sharply at a melting transition.
