Drying for Moisture Sensitive Materials

Test ID

D-017

Description

Pelletized samples are placed in a vacuum oven or fluid bed dryer for the customer specified time and temperature. Small samples are taken at routine time intervals and moisture is measured by way of Karl Fisher titration. Specimens are continually monitored to ensure the material reaches the desired target moisture.

Options

Standards

  • ASTM 6869
  • ISO 15512

Data

Moisture Content. This data appears in Matereality as Moisture Content.

Replicates

Number of times this test is repeated: 2

Samples

0.5 kg of pellets [details]

Application

Some polymers are moisture sensitive, meaning they absorb moisture. This moisture content can adversely affect the finished molded product. It is critical that samples be dried to the proper moisture level to produce meaningful test data that accurately represents the material.
