Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic for Simulation
Test ID
Q-400
Description
Tensile tests are performed using ISO 8256 type 3 tensile bars cut from a long flow length injection molded plaque away from the gate and then polished along edges. Specimens are to be conditioned as DAM (Dry as Molded), if the material to be tested is moisture sensitive it may be necessary to also perform testing per Q-402 to establish the effect of moisture on the material. To establish orientation and rate dependency, tensile tests are performed at various strain rates at 0°, 45°, and 90° to the flow direction. An initial test is performed to establish crosshead speed to strain rate relationship on both the electromechanical and servohydraulic frames (all other strain rates will be a function of this initial crosshead speed). Tensile tests are performed at strain rates of 0.001. 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, 10, 100, and 500 /s, a repeat of 0.1 /s to ensure equivalent data and to collect a full field DIC video for analysis. All other strain rates use a hybrid DIC method in which a virtual extensometer is used to capture strain in the 10 mm gauge region and a 30 mm extensometer for collection of displacement on the test coupon. All tests include 5 replicates for each condition.
