Apple-Specific Plastic Testing Protocol (hybrid DIC, tensile rate dependency only)
Test ID
Q-405
Description
Tensile testing is performed at varying strain rates to characterize plastic material behavior. The tensile specimens used are ISO 8256 Type 3 tensile bars. All test specimens are taken from one of the three predetermined positions on a 4"x12" plaque (76.2mm, 152.4mm, or 228.6 mm from the gate) and are polished after extraction. Tensile testing is performed using a hybrid DIC method that employs the use of 2 distinct extensometer lengths, 10mm and 27mm respectively. A preliminary test is performed to determine the relationship between crosshead speed and strain rate at quaisstatic speed and all other strain rates/crosshead speeds are based on this initial relationship. Tensile testing is performed at 6 strain rates between 0.001/s and 100/s. Tensile rate dependency tests include 6 replicates per condition.1 replicate of DMA testing is also performed. A cyclic damage test is also performed.
